KY-040 Rotary Encoder

The advantage compared to a normal potentiometer is that the encoder can be turned endlessly in one direction. With a potentiometer, the end value is reached at some point. With this encoder module, it can also be distinguished whether it is turned left or right. In addition, the breakout board also has a button that is switched by pressing the encoder. This module is perfect for navigating menus, for example. It can also be used very well to control and move motors, similar to a handwheel on CNC machines. There is an Arduino library for reading the encoder, which you can find under "manage libraries" if you search for Encoder.
