Fermion BME688 AI Environmental Sensor (VOC, Temperature, Humidity, Pressure)
The Fermion BME688 environmental sensor from DFRobot combines temperature, humidity, air pressure, and VOC measurement in a compact module. The sensor is based on the MEMS chip BME688 from Bosch and offers a temperature accuracy of ±0.5 °C, a humidity accuracy of ±3% RH, and an air pressure accuracy of ±0.6 hPa. By supporting the I2C and SPI communication protocols, the module can be flexibly integrated into microcontroller projects; when using the SPI bus, a supply of 3.3 V is required. The operating voltage can range from 3.3 V to 5.0 V, and the typical operating current is 5 mA, rising to about 25 mA with the VOC heater enabled. An integrated heating layer stabilizes gas measurement and allows the sensor to be used for AI-supported gas analysis with the BME AI-Studio software and the BSEC2 library. Compared to the BME680, temperature measurement has been improved and the layout designed so that heat from adjacent components has less impact on the sensor. The sensor provides an IAQ index (Indoor Air Quality) in the range from 0 to 500, where higher values indicate poorer air quality. Due to the compact dimensions of about 18 × 15.6 mm, the Fermion module is particularly suitable for space-critical devices or mobile measurement systems. It is compatible with common development platforms such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and ESP32/ESP8266 and is suitable for precise air quality measurements, weather stations, and industrial safety systems.
